You Are Able

I came across a YouTube video that discussed Ableism. Ableism is discrimination against people with disabilities. A disability includes any kind of cognitive (hinders ideas, memory, concentration, reason and ability to think), visual, speech and dexterity impairments (reduced function of ligaments like arms and hands). It also includes learning disabilities, deafness and blindness.

This can affects most people sometime in their life. Since it also includes the elderly. It has even affected me for a few months.

Before I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease I had swollen feet & ankles that made things difficult, such as: going to class, going up the stairs to my room in residence, getting on a bus, walking for long periods of time and going up any slants. Basically I struggled walking, it didn't hurt but my feet felt like they weighed a lot. It took a month after my diagnosis for it to go away.

During the time I had this I was told that I got strange looks when I went out of the house. I didn't pay attention to it, I was too busy taking in all the stuff around me to notice them. I just figured that it was a good reason to look at my surroundings more, since I could rush anywhere.

Lazaro Arbos stated the discrimination he's had when he said that he works at an ice cream shop because that's the only job he could get "That I don't have to do smart people stuff like talk."

Hearing him say that hurt and it should. Everything should be equal their should be no need for all these names about discrimination. I believe that every person on this Earth deserves to be treated equally. So if you are one of those people giving others glares or discriminating, just cut it out. One day you'll be that person and you won't want that done to you.

Online Games

Lately, I've found online games are awesome. I've had a few games on my phone for a long time, like Jewels, Sudoku and Mahjong. I also do the occasional Doctor Who puzzle. There are just so many games online now, even Facebook has them.

One of my favourite games is Multiflyer, a math game that's all about multiplication and it leads you to different planets comparing them to Earth. The other is Typer Shark, I used to play that all the time.

Lately, I've been playing Zuma and Icy Tower. Zuma is the one I play all the time. Even watching TV, so long as I'm not watching Switched at Birth. Icy Tower is an oldie but  a goody. I've only ever made it to the 300th floor but I'll keep playing. What is your favourite?

Stuffed Animals

Stuffed animals are always a good gift. They're great on birthday's and for when you're sick. My favourite thing about stuffed animals is that they all have a story to the person you give them too.

For example, these are some of my favourite stuffed animals. On the right there is Charlie, I got him years ago. Then there's Noël, who I got on Christmas a few years ago. Then there's the oldest, Sweetheart, my monkey. I've had Sweetheart for as long as I can remember. Weston, I got from my little sister just after I got out of the hospital after being diagnosed with severe Crohn's at the end of December 2012. The newest addition to the group is Clover, he has an awesome red beard that makes me smile.
Even a sewed monkey like Stitches is a great thing to give a friend. I keep these animals near me because they can always cheer me up, no matter what. They're soft, motivating and great to play with when you're a kid.

The Stranger

Albert Camus                                Photo Cite
My favourite book from Grade 12 French class was L'etranger or The Stranger. I recently found an English version online. The first line of the book says it all.
"MOTHER died today."
No emotion, nothing. It is a book about an existentialist, someone who believes in experiencing things, stresses the importance of choices and believes that all there is, is right now. This belief basically makes everything meaningless and in this book Meursault the main character does not do anything without a reason to do so or without his environment impacting him.
His relationship with his girlfriend in the book is not typical in the least. As is his relationships with everyone else.

My first year at University

My first year of University flew by fast. Probably because I only did a semester of it. When I first went I was excited, I could not wait to get involved in a club, activity and start trying out new things that were a bit outside of my comfort zone.
I bought some new clothes, bought some necessities for the year like a towel, shampoo, condition and bedding. You can see some of my other purchases below. But looking back the best purchases I made were: my fly swatter (to get other people to kill the terrifying & unfriendly spiders I got in my room), bedding, foam mattress (saved my from the discomfort of my hard bed), bathrobe (so soft, I almost didn't want to get changed), my laptop, my book bag, my fan,  and my mini fridge (best thing ever!).

Some other great things bought, I bought at  Staples, and that was the binders and the notebooks. I used them all the time in class and they are so light. Which was nice since the textbooks were not.

Overall my first Year went well. I had a blast during Frosh Week, I went on the Subway for my first time and Canada's Wonderland (this time I tried a few new rides, the Tea Cups are my favourite), and I got to be apart of a Scavenger Hunt around Toronto. I also became apart of the Food Committee, to give ideas that may improve the cafeteria.
My first year was great and although I had to leave due to medical reasons, I'm glad I went and I'm glad I chose to get better so that I can enjoy everything it has to offer me next year.

The Hunger Games

I went to see The Hunger Games yesterday and the film was great. The only complaint I have is that there was not a lot of fighting in it. That probably sounds ridiculous though since about half the film was fighting and trying to survive.

However, before watching the Hunger Games about a year or so ago I watch Battle Royale, which is a Japanese film about a class of 42 students fighting to the death and in that film they spent maybe 25 minutes explaining everything and getting the students ready to fight, the rest of the film (90 minutes) was the students fighting to be the last one standing.

So when you go from that to watching The Hunger Games where the training and introduction is longer (100 minutes or more) and the fighting does not last nearly as long (45 minutes or less) as Battle Royale, it's just different. I guess I expected less intro. and more violence. Overall, the Hunger Games was a good and interesting film however, in my opinion Battle Royale is better. I can't say that I would want to watch the Hunger Games again for a long time, where as I could watch Battle Royale one Friday and want to watch it the next week.
The Hunger Games was a family friendlier and toned down version of Battle Royale. I would definitely watch the Hunger Games again on a sick day or something. However, I wouldn't watch it on a Horror or Scary film night like I would Battle Royale. What do you think: The Hunger Games or Battle Royale?
